A Good Day
What signs do you see that tell you God is active and loving and working in YOUR world? Large birds seem to carry messages for me: owls, eagles, osprey, herons, egrets. And in driving across Wisconsin yesterday on my way to a conference, I saw something I’d never seen before: three herons in a field, standing on their long pointy legs as herons do AND about seventy egrets in a marsh, obviously (I guess), migrating. I’ve always seen egrets by themselves, and herons, too, for that matter. We have an egret that visits our backyard pond every year. He comes late, mid-May, and maybe we’ll see him around, but not much. I thought they came late and left early. I was wrong. They all travel together.
Just like human beings. We need each other along the way for life and love and sustenance.
Seeing all those birds yesterday was a sign to me that God is near, that all is well. As our friend Teresa of Avila wrote: And all will be well, and all will be well, and all manner of things will be well.
Thank you, God.
